The Logistics Achiever Awards aim to reward logistics and supply chain excellence in Southern Africa, and encourage local supply chain executives to meet world-class standards.
Says Mike Dennis, Supply Chain Director, Twinsaver Group: “We chose to partner with Imperial Logistics as they had the experience and resources needed to complete a project of this scale, including the flexibility and competency to adapt to changing requirements.”
The partnership successfully simplified Twinsaver’s complex supply chain, characterised by poor time management, a lack of collaboration and a high carbon footprint. A joint intervention by Twinsaver and Imperial Logistics allowed for the enhancement of efficiencies, reduction of stock holding and improvement of service levels; positively impacting the bottom line and resulting in a national footprint for Twinsaver.
A key driver of this achievement was widespread automation, including the installation of route planning systems in all trucks, together with GPS trackers, eliminating thousands of KMs of unnecessary travelling. A national planner was also implemented, streamlining stock movements across all sites and making direct routes possible, further reducing transport costs.
“Re-engineering supply chains is far more challenging than starting out on a clean slate,” adds Mike. “An effective change management strategy had to be executed to ensure that process adjustments were sustainable for the long-term. Going forward, our objective is to be the lowest cost tissue value chain in South Africa. This will require continuous review of everything we do and the enhancement of our capabilities everywhere, every day.”
Garth Towell, CEO of Twinsaver, concludes, “This achievement is a clear proof point for our organisation’s drive towards a high performance business culture. Congratulations to the team on a truly admirable outcome!”
